Backdrop Signature Headboards
Backdrop is the headboard designed by young Swiss-French designer Julie Richoz, conceived to give the bed three-dimensionality and make it the focal point of the room. Inspired by loft-style interiors, where the bed often takes centre stage, Richoz envisioned a headboard that could stand independently within the space. The project stems from the simple, spontaneous gesture of hanging a piece of fabric on the wall to create intimacy, protection or separation. With Backdrop, this gesture is translated into a design object that “dresses” the bed with a large suspended textile panel. The result is a piece of furniture that combines lightness with scenic presence, bringing warmth and character to the environment.
"The fabric seems to float lightly at the end of the bed, creating a near-theatrical effect. The way it is suspended was a fascinating element to explore. The solution we adopted is based on birch plywood panels supported by two long poles, which hold the fabric in place. The outcome is an object with a strong architectural identity, featuring an aesthetic that subtly references the nautical world. It is not merely a surface, but an element that structures the space, creating an intimate dimension within the room.
